Weekend in the Big Apple

Image
To kick off Spring break this year I flew to New York to visit my friend KC who goes to Fordham. Since Baltimore is only a 3 hour bus ride to the city, I've never spent the night there so this was a treat. Once we finally found each other at LaGuardia we were off to Manhattan to meet her boyfriend Ross at Smac, a restaurant that solely serves mac and cheese. Then Saturday we walked around Manhattan. View of the city from Highline Park. We stopped to warm up in an Italian Bakery. Sunday, we walked around the Bronx and Little Italy a bit. Then it was time to leave. I was proud of myself for getting from Fordham to the Megabus station. Giant pizza from Little Italy.  It was a great weekend full of great friends and great food.

Pre Spring Break Blues

Today is just one of those dreary mondays. The combination of it being 30 degrees, the day after the Oscars and 5 days from Spring break people here are really dragging. And I'm definitely one of them.  There are a few things that are making it a bit more bearable: 1. It's sunny today! Yes, there's snow covering the ground and there's another 6 inches coming tonight, for now it's pretty nice outside.  2. I'm going to New York to see my friend KC this upcoming weekend. I've never actually spent the night in New York so I'm excited to get to spend a significant amount of time there! 2 Bawlmore gals conquering the Big Apple! 3. The Oscars last night were fabulous. Argo. Meryl Streep's dress. Adelle. Anne Hathaway. It was a great night, totally worth staying up late for. She looks absolutely divine.  Has Halle ever looked bad? This is quite a dress but she definitely pulls it off.  Stacey Keibler looks great but, George, ...

Gatorade, You're Doing it Right

Image
I don't know about the non- University of Michigan world but here in Ann Arbor I feel like everyone (myself included) has one of these: I mean to be honest, I got mine cause I wanted to feel like a professional athlete. And to be honest, If you think about it, it's a GENIUS campaign. The simple water bottles are cheap (a mere $4 compared to a $20 Camelback) and they work really well. But it's not the actual product that is great for Gatorade, it's the fact that people are PAYING to advertise for them! I mean if Joe Flacco has one and he's the Super Bowl MVP, I should have one too. I wish I could have an idea like that. Do you have a gatorade water bottle? Do you love yours as much as I love mine?

A Week of Holidays

Image
So here's the deal, I thought I wanted to stop blogging but I've really missed it in the last few weeks. I know that it's super annoying when bloggers don't post regularly so I'll try and be better. I'm not going to catch you up on the last almost 3 months, I'm just going to pick up where I left off!  Here we go! This week is unusual because there are TWO holidays! Mardi Gras and Valentine's Day. If you know anything about me, you know I love holidays!  Today I celebrated Mardi Gras by wearing my beads and enjoying a Pazcki (basically a donut).  I hope I can go to NOLA for Mardi Gras one year! Valentine's Day will be filled with sweets, chick flicks and friends (after I get home from clinical AND drill). Stay tuned for pictures! True love What are your holiday plans for this week?

Finals Week

Image
For most students finals week is full of caffeine, all nighters, and endless days at the library. But nursing students are a bit different. We run around like chickens with our heads cut off the rest of the semester and finals week is a break for us. This finals week I'm going to try and do some of those things that I haven't had time for all semester. I went ice skating at Yost, the U of M Ice Arena. Skating was definitely a struggle for me...  And tomorrow I'm going to Blimpy Burger. It made it on to Diners Drive Ins and Dives but the University is buying the property so I have to go before it moves to a new location! I can't wait! I'm going to do my Christmas shopping. I surely will not be buying this many things.  And make some treats for our Navy Christmas party. I can't put a picture of those cause it's a surprise! And yes...there will be some studying. So for all of you having a terrible finals week, try and do something just ...

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

Image
Happy December! December is probably my favorite month of the year. I just love Christmas! Luckily, Ann Arbor is definitely in the holiday spirit too! Starbucks has Egg Nog! (I might or might not use Jill as my fake name at Starbucks...) The lights on Main St. are up! They also had a Christmas event called Midnight Madness on Friday night that Jenn and I went to. I've already eaten 2 chocolates from my advent calendar! I just love Christmas! What have you done to get in the Christmas spirit?

Happy Blogiversary!

1 year ago today, Life in the Fast Layne was born. Well actually it was called, "A Day in the Life," until a friend suggested a very punny title.  So a year ago it was a weekend, there was no freezing rain and there was not a hurricane hitting my home town. But rest assured things are a okay here.  Who can resist some Grease humor?  Actually, Maryland didn't get too much damage, but New Jersey definitely did. For me, the interesting part is how this is going to affect the election. Not only will people be hindered from voting, the experience may even change their opinions of the candidates. They switched the candidates' hair! I know it's a serious matter but this is hilarious! So we just have to wait until November 6th and hope that it gets a little warmer! Do you think this storm will have a profound effect on the election results?
