Crash!

Image
So I totally should be finishing packing instead of blogging but Memorial Day weekend was really blog worthy. I spent the weekend at one of my favorite places on Earth: Deep Creek Lake. This summer will be my 19th summer at the lake and I think I love it more and more each time. I drove up on Friday and my trip was really easy. My grandmother was already there and my aunt, uncle and cousins arrived about 2 hours later. I did a short hill workout and then it was time for dinner. Mountains in the background on the drive up. After dinner we had a nice bonfire and then I went to bed. It's like a blanket. Saturday was time to try out our new boat. Our old boat was over 30 years old and it just died 2 years ago. This boat is only 7 years old so it was quite an upgrade. So we packed up and headed down to the boat. And here's where things get interesting. We were out for no more than 2 minutes when crash, we ran into the back of another boat! My uncle has been driving b

Baltimore Lovin'

I have to admit that I never really appreciated what the Baltimore area has to offer until I left for Michigan. So, since I've been home I've been taking advantage of it all. First and foremost, I had steamed crabs this Saturday. I haven't had them in almost a year. They were delicious as always even though the company was slightly sub par. Also, we picked the extra crabs so we could have crab omelets on Sunday morning. After the crab feast I went on a nice run by my Dad's house. It was sunny but not too hot and the farms were beautiful. I mean it doesn't really get better than that. Speaking of runs, I ran on the NCR trail today which for those of you don't know is a really nice trail in Maryland and Pennsylvania. It is pretty flat in the Southern part (where I run) which makes it really easy to hit my splits for my runs. Today, it was POURING rain which was nice because it wasn't hot but I felt like a drowned rat when I was done. Wedne

Whining While Working Out

Image
I know I haven't blogged in a while...I do think about it a lot but I haven't had anything exciting to say! I'm still just babysitting and working out. But working out is the key part...I have had some REALLY hard workouts. Sunday (mother's day) I went out intending to run for 70 minutes and by about 45 I thought I was going to die. I mean not really die but I thought about asking someone if I could borrow their phone so I could get a ride home. It. was. awful. I mean I guess this is true...but I was pathetic. Then Monday I reluctantly put on my running shoes but then I looked outside and it was raining and I just decided to do laundry instead. Tuesday I had an okay 40 minutes on the elliptical while watching Sex and the City (thanks for lending it to me Sara!). I also visited my aunt, uncle and 2 cousins so it was a nice day. Me with the newest addition to the family. Then today I decided I would do a hill workout. I ran about a mile to a field that

Green Monster

So, I'm on a bit of a smoothie kick. I have tried and failed to make smoothies before and I learned that you have to actually follow the recipe! You might say "duh" but one would think that you couldn't mess up if you threw peanut butter, milk and a banana in a blender...but you can. So, today I tried to be really adventurous and I got a recipe for a peanut butter smoothie with spinach. Yes, it sounds gross but it actually turned out to be really good! So, here is the recipe: Green Smoothie 1 banana 1 heaping tablespoon of peanut butter 1 large handful of spinach 1/2 scoop of vanilla protein powder 3/4 cup of the milk of your choice (I used almond milk this time but it doesn't really matter) However much ice you want My smoothie How you'll look after drinking my smoothie I promise you that it wasn't gross! I even made my brother try it! Stay tuned for more recipes this summer, I'm living in a house next year so

Typical Life at Home

Image
So as you probably know...I've been home for 5 days now. It has been nice and relaxing but I definately miss the perks of a college town. Any who, here's what I have been up to: The perfect balance of news, life skills and goofyness! 1. Every morning I get to watch the Today show while I drink a cup (or 4) of coffee. That is one of the things that I missed the most when I was in college.  2. Then, most days in the coming weeks I have a babysitting job. I decided that I wasn't going to get a job but all the babysitting is basically a job. 3. But, the babysitting is very important in #3: shopping. I finally bought a pair of loafers and a skinny yellow belt! I also bought a maize and blue rugby shirt. I'm still in search for a pair of khakis to wear for formal PCA (proper civilian attire, aka khakis with a tucked in polo). I will need these because... 4. I'm going to be on a navy ship for most of June! I will be shadowing the corpsmen and learning more abo
