Roomie Love

Image
This weekend I went home with my roommate Haley. She lives in a town called Grosse Pointe, right outside of Detroit. Friday night we went to see the Hunger Games. I haven't read the books so I wasn't super immersed but it does have an interesting plot. Saturday morning we got up early to go to a walk for Muscular Dystrophy. Our team of 8 headed to Ford Stadium (Where the Lions play) for the fundraiser. Besides the walk we got to take pictures with several Star Wars characters, Micky Mouse and the Detroit Lion. Some of us and R2D2 After the walk I went to take a nap that ended up being 5 hours. I was so exhausted from the week before so I woke up feeling very refreshed. Saturday night we went to a Hookah bar and then to a Coney restaurant. I'm still kind of confused about Coneys. They seem to be a combination of Greek and American food but they aren't a chain. I also don't know if they're a Michigan thing or a big city thing or what. Either way I had a

We had a ball at the ball!

This Friday was the annual Tri-Service Ball for all the ROTC units at the University of Michigan. This ball is fun because the Navy girls get to wear dresses (we have to wear uniforms to the ball first semester).  I went with my friend Reid and we had a great time! Meredith, Reid and me before the ball! Then Saturday was St. Patrick's Day! The weather was so nice so I did my homework outside. After that I headed out for a run but I ran into my friend Milena and she convinced me to come celebrate her birthday (there was carrot cake, how could I resist?). After indulging a bit, I went off for a run. My run was very short because I had to get ready to out to dinner for my friend Adelle's birthday!  We went to a restaurant called Sava's and it was delicious! It was also nice to talk to Adelle's friend Katarina who was visiting for the weekend. We had lots to talk about because she's in the Navy ROTC program for nurses at Marquette! Today was no ordinary Thursday; this afternoon there was a tornado (hence the title)! To be honest it didn't really do any damage or anything but it was the first time that I have actually had to wait in a basement during a tornado warning. When we get them in Maryland we usually ignore them but this one touched down at a city to our North and a city to our South. During the 2 hour warning time we also got almost 5 inches of rain and lots of hail. Luckily we'll have lovely weather for the rest of the weekend. I love musicals! I was actually in this play in 6th grade! The other highlight of the evening was playing inner tube water polo. It is a completely ridiculous game but it was really fun! It was also good to get in some exercise since my dance aerobics class was cancelled due to the storm. This isn't us but it's exactly what we looked like. It was a blast! Stay tuned for a post about the ball I am going to tomorrow! Have you been in any strange weather ev

Cheer Up Buttercup!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while...it's been a bit of a rough week. Even though I've been struggling a bit, some good things have happened.  1. I got my pink pants! I have wanted pink pants since December and I finally got them in the mail yesterday! I can't wait to wear them. I'm totally in love with them! 2. The weather has been GORGEOUS! Today it is supposed to get up to a high of 74, so much for a Michigan winter. It has definitely helped to motivate me to get some longer distance runs in.  3. I got the stain out of my green shirt, remember ? I also found my head phones! That may sound simple but when little things like that happen it definitely perks up the day! How has your life been going? What little things are making you happy?

Super Tuesday

Image
Yes, I know it's Wednesday, but I went to bed at 9 last night (I'm a grandma) and all the states hadn't reported their winners. If you don't know what Super Tuesday is, its the day where there are the most primaries for the primary election. To win the Republican nomination a candidate must get 1,144 delegates and over 400 of them were at stake yesterday. So at the end of the night last night Romney had won Arkansas, Idaho, Virginia, Ohio, Massachusetts (his home state) and Vermont. Santorum won North Dakota, Tennessee and Oklahoma, Gingrich won his home state or Georgia and Ron Paul didn't win anything. Since these results were so divided it really didn't lead the Republicans any closer to choosing a nominee. Romney gives his victory speech in Boston. But that is all very technical. Even though Santorum has won a few states, to me it seems HIGHLY likely that Romney will win the nomination. For another candidate to win, they would have to start domintat

Spring Break

Image
Today is the last day of Spring break and I have been studying ALL DAY. So I decided to take a break and write about my break. As you probably know I took a road trip home with my friend Meredith. We got to my house around dinner time so I took her out for some crab cakes! She left the next morning so I had the rest of the week to run errands go shopping. Meredith's first Maryland crab cake! (sorry it's blurry!) Actually, I did run some errands. I went to the doctor (I had a sinus infection when I got home), got my watch fixed (I don't know how I wore a running watch all throughout high school but now when my dress watch breaks and I have to wear a running watch I feel silly.), fixed my bank accounts and got a desperately needed pedicure (does that count as an errand?). I also visited with lots of family and friends. My aunt, uncle and cousin came to my grandmother's for some delicious white chili and lemon cake. I also went down to Virginia to visit with my

Road Trip!

Finally, as promised, here is the story of Meredith's and my voyage to Maryland. So we woke up early so that we could get on the road. Ann Arbor is close to Ohio so that was our first stop. We got breakfast and coffee and then kept on going. My first time to Ohio! So many farms! Next, we crossed in to Pennsylvannia. We were trying to get lunch in Pittsburgh but we got SO lost that we just gave up, left the city and got lunch about an hour later at a McDonalds in a rest stop. Pittsburgh seemed like such an awesome city but with all the bridges it was so confusing. I hope to get back there this summer. Meredith's first time in Pennsylvania! We saw an accident between 2 tractor trailors getting cleaned up but we were able to get around it fairly easily. From there, with the help of signs and my knowledge of Western Maryland (my grandmother has a cabin there so we go up a lot) we navigated our way to my house. Driving in to Baltimore!  We did have to make
